Algorithms

Video-based Learning Module

An algorithm is a list set of instructions, used to solve problems or perform tasks, based on the understanding of available alternatives. Creating and using algorithms are important computational thinking practices. In this video, youth are introduced to the concept of using algorithms through fun, hands-on activities using LEGOs and in Minecraft Education Edition.

As you watch the video, think about these questions:

  • What did youth learn from their experience with the LEGOs?
  • What did they bring from this experience to their activity in Minecraft?

Now that you’ve watched the video, reflect on what you saw.

  • How does a hands-on experience help youth understand an abstract like using algorithms?
